Shopify 2023 Plans and Costs Comparison
- Complete guide 2023
As you might be aware, there are changes to Shopify Pricing Plan 2023.
What's changing?
Since Jan 24, 2023, Shopify has been changing the subscription price of our Basic, Shopify, and Advanced plans. These prices were automatically applied to all new merchants starting at that time. And existing merchants have not seen any change for three months after that.
In combination, the Shopify Lite plan has been rebranded as Shopify Starter!
The Shopify Lite plan isn't available to new merchants. If you're a new merchant, then you can use the Shopify Starter plan to sell products without an online store.
If you're a merchant currently on the Shopify Lite plan and you decide to change your plan, then you can't revert back to the Shopify Lite plan.
So, by the time you read this article, the changes are applied to all.

$0.25 USD per transaction is incurred after that
Monthly fees from your payment processor. These are fees that businesses will pay to payment processors for the ability to accept credit card payments. Some payment processors charge a monthly minimum fee, while others charge monthly by the transaction. It’s noteworthy that some free processors may make up for it by charging higher processing fees on each transaction. For example, Shopify’s all-in-one service starts at $39 per month after a free trial. By contrast, PayPal does not charge a monthly fee, but it takes a commission from each sale.
Transaction-based fees from the payment processor. Your transaction fees are typically a blend of a flat per-transaction fee and a commission on the total purchase price. For instance, PayPal charges merchants 3.49% of the purchase price, plus a flat 49¢ transaction fee. Shopify Payments fees range from 2.4% to 2.9% of a purchase, plus a flat 30¢ transaction fee. These transaction-based fees almost always include interchange fees, so you don’t have to calculate these as a separate line item.
Assessment fees from credit card companies. These typically range from 0.13% to 0.15% of the purchase price, depending on the credit card company. For instance, if your customer made a $20 purchase on their credit card, you can expect to pay approximately 3¢ in credit card assessment fees.

Additional costs
Domain Name: Must be purchased separately from a domain name registrar, such as Google Domains or DreamHost for around $15 per year.
Premium Theme: While it’s entirely possible to use a free Shopify theme, businesses often opt for a premium theme to make their look exactly how they want out of the gate. Premium themes range significantly from around $75 to over $300.
Premium Apps and Plugins: To expand the functionality of a Shopify store, businesses often pay to use premium plugins. Pricing ranges from plugin to plugin but varies from as little as $5 per month to hundreds of dollars.
Time: Of course, building your own online store will cost you time.
Development: In some instances, businesses may choose to hire a web developer or designer to assist with creating a Shopify site or mitigate any issues that should arise.
Still in need of further consideration?
Choosing the most suitable Shopify plan is not only to achieve short-term goals, but it also has to serve the long-term goals and the direction you are going in the future. Try answering the following questions:
How many products will you sell?
What products will you sell?
What is the size of your workforce, do you need access to Shopify for employees?
How many customers do you have and want to reach?
How much net income do you get each month?
How much can you spend on transaction fees and still achieve your financial goals?
How important is it to your business to have additional features like reporting and analytics?
